Royal-College-of-ArtThe Royal College of Art is going to expand, following the government’s pledge to contribute funding for the project in its recent spending statement this autumn.

The RCA wants to add a 15,000 m² campus in Battersea that will be the centre for a number of new courses.

Focus of the new campus will be the crossover between design, science and technology.

There will be programs that will range from classes for city design and robotics to smart materials and wearable technology. The furthermore planned that the new design technology campus will house a number of start-up businesses as part of the school’s program to help graduates become entrepreneurs.

The same time, the school will move its fashion and textiles department. This move to Battersea is in the works for more than four years already.

It is expected that the new facility can provide space for more than 1500 students and staff. The location for the new campus will be close to the just recently completed Dyson Building, the Woo building and Clore innovation Centre.

The exact design for the new school campus still out in the open. Several architects submitted their ideas already which includes either one large structure or several smaller buildings.
